SUMMARY:18th Annual NMHI Research Day
DESCRIPTION:The 18th annual Neuroscience and Mental Health Institute Research Day with be held Friday\, March 10th\, 2017. We are excited to have Dr. Jack Gallant from University of California Berkley as our keynote this year.\n\nDr. Gallant is the Chancellor’s Professor of Psychology at UCB and his laboratory is interested in how the brain represents information about the world and about its own mental states. His laboratory also had a breakthrough Nature paper this summer where they created a semantic atlas of the brain. For more information on Dr. Gallant’s work\, please visit his website: http://gallantlab.org/.\n\nNeuroscience and Mental Health Institute Research Day is a great opportunity to discuss research and meet other students/faculty from the Neuroscience and Mental Health Institute. We will be sending out our call for abstract submission in the new year. We look forward to seeing you all this March.

SUMMARY:Finding and Using Research Evidence to Inform Decision-making in Health Systems and Organizations
DESCRIPTION:Want to be at the leading edge of the fast paced field of how to bring the best evidence to bear on pressing policy issues in support of health-system strengthening? Don’t miss your chance to attend a two-day workshop organized by the Alberta SPOR Support Unit Knowledge Translation Platform in collaboration with the McMaster Health Forum on the topic of ‘finding and using research evidence to inform decision-making in health systems and organizations’. \nThe objectives of the training are: to develop participants’ knowledge about tools and resources available to help health system policy makers and stakeholders in order to support their use of research evidence; to examine the attitudes that are supportive of using research evidence in health system decision-making; and to enhance participants skills in acquiring\, assessing\, adapting\, and applying research evidence. Download the course overview and curriculum for more information. \nTraining will be provided in a format that combines an online course component with an in-person workshop component. \n\nOnline Component: Participants receive password-protected access to the online course materials one month prior to the workshop\, and are asked to complete the course units and submit their course work in advance of the in-person workshop. Participants should be prepared to dedicate the adequate amount of time to complete the pre-workshop online component. It takes roughly 13 hours to complete the course\, including all activities and task sheets\, although it may take up to twice that amount if participants choose to work through each task sheet more intensely.\nIn-person Two-day Workshop: The workshop will take place on February 21 and 22\, 2017 at the University of Calgary campus. It will include a combination of live demonstrations and ‘hands-on’ sessions; the content will be adapted to meet the needs of the participants\, based on their submitted online course work.\n\nThis workshop will be facilitated by the members of the McMaster Health Forum. It will be presented by Kaelan Moat\, PhD\, Scientific Lead in Health Systems Evidence and Learning\, McMaster Health Forum\, and Mike Wilson\, PhD\, Assistant Professor and Assistant Director\, McMaster Health Forum.
